Itinerary

Day 1 – April 21: Arrive in Glasgow. Drop your luggage at our modern hotel in the heart of the city. Then, our adventure officially begins with our opening welcome dinner.
Accommodation in Glasgow.

Day 2 – April 22: – In the morning, we’ll hop onto a luxury mini coach with our savvy local guide and journey from Glasgow to the rugged and wild Isle of Skye. We will learn about the history and culture of this beautiful place where our ancestors may have walked.
The tour begins by traveling north through the picturesque Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park before entering the remote and famous valley of Glencoe, with a chance for photos. The journey continues to Fort William, a charming Highland town at the foot of Ben Nevis, where the group will have free time for lunch. After passing scenic landmarks like the Five Sisters of Kintail and Eilean Donan Castle, the tour crosses a bridge to the Isle of Skye.
Enjoy a group dinner in the coastal village of Broadford. We’ll stay at a quaint B&B.

Day 3 – April 23: We’ll head out in the morning to explore the mystical Isle of Skye (get your camera ready). There are so many incredible sites, and what we see will be based on the ever-changing weather. We’ll likely head north to the Trotternish Ridge to see famous other-worldy landmarks like the Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, and the Quiraing. Throughout the day we’ll learn about Scottish history, lore, and culture. We’ll return to Broadford in the evening for dinner.

Day 4 – April 24: Our journey today takes us past lochs surrounded by jagged-peaked mountains, a 13th-century castle, monster territory(!), charming villages, and a breathtaking national park. We say goodbye to the Isle of sky, crossing the Skye Bridge to visit the iconic Eilean Donan Castle. We’ll travel to Fort Augustus, a village on the banks of the famed Loch Ness (cross your fingers that we see the monster!) for lunch and free time. The journey continues south through Cairngorms National Park with a snack break in Pitlochry. We end back in Glasgow.

Day 5 – April 25: After indulging in a yummy breakfast, we’ll take the train to Edinburgh. We’ll enjoy a group lunch and then visit the famous Edinburgh Castle. The rest of the day is yours to explore the winding Victorian streets of Cockburn and Victoria, stroll the Royal Mile to do some shopping or pop into a museum, or view the Scott Monument (built for the writer, Sir Walter Scott).

Day 6 – April 26: After a delicious breakfast, the morning is yours to visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the residence of the Scottish royalty, climb Calton Hill for the best view of the city, or simply relax and soak it all in. After lunch, put on your walking shoes as we step into 19th-century Scotland as we stroll Dean Village. Then we’ll check out the bustling Stockbridge Market, and shop for artisanal food and crafts. Then we’ll enjoy the tranquil oasis of the Royal Botanic Garden. Finally, we’ll enjoy another fun group dinner.

Day 7 – April 27: After breakfast, anyone who would like to spend time at the Edinburgh’ Family History Centre to track down ancestors is welcome to do so. Otherwise, finish up the last of your Edinburgh sightseeing and shopping. After lunch, we’ll take a short bus ride to the coast to enjoy an unforgettable afternoon in North Berwick, a quaint seaside town. We officially end our trip with a memorable closing dinner.

Day 8 – April 28: Fly home from the Edinburgh airport, or use this as an opportunity to visit nearby London or Dublin!

Cost: $2,999 with special discounts.
50% of payment is due at time of booking and the remaining 50% is due 90 days prior to leaving (January 29, 2026).
Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel your trip, you must notify us in writing via email (info@taprootstravel.com). The following cancellation fees apply, based on the date we receive your written notification:
- 91+ days prior to departure: 50% of the total trip cost is forfeited.
- 61-90 days prior to departure: 75% of the total trip cost is forfeited.
- 0-60 days prior to departure: 100% of the total trip cost is forfeited.
We are unable to make exceptions to this policy for any reason, including personal emergencies. We strongly advise that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance to protect yourself from unforeseen circumstances.

Important Travel Info
Airline tickets will be “open jaw”, meaning that you’ll flight into GLASGOW arriving on April 21 and out of EDINBURGH on April 28. You are also welcome to extend your trip on your own by arriving early or departing at a later date (which would not be included in the Taproots Travel trip).
Please contact us prior to purchasing airfare or making other payments such as passport fees. As this is our first official Taproots Travel trip, we want to make sure that we have enough participants. We do not anticipate this being a problem, and we will let you know as soon as possible (by Dec. 31 at the latest).
As this is a road-trip style experience, we are limited in the amount of luggage we can take. You can bring one carry-on size bag up to 30 pounds and one personal item.

Devanie is an experienced family historian. She delights in discovering the stories of her ancestors and finds great joy in helping others do the same!
We are passionate about helping others strengthen their family bonds by learning about their ancestors and connecting with their current family members. We don’t think there’s a more fun or impactful way to do this by walking where our ancestors walked!
